Weddings and Golf, they go hand and hand.

On May, 14, 2010 | 0 Comments
Anita and Heath love each other. Anita and Heath love Golf. Why not have a wedding where both can be displayed for all to see? That’s exactly what they did. I traveled out to The Sandtrap, a McMenamins location out in Gearhart. We game planned to take advantage of three places, the golf course, the beach and the Sandtrap itself. It’s fun to check out all the McMenamins properties. They are all so unique and all have great stories behind them. The joke of the evening was the fact that it took so long to get to this place in their lives. Anita simply said that she was picky and had to wait for the perfect guy for her and that was Heath. After the ceremony we decided to go to the beach to get some shots. Driving down the slight slope of doom to the sand, I decided not to test the off-road capabilities of the Prius and backed up conceding this battle to the beach. While shooting, two other vehicles were not so lucky and got stuck side by side right at the mouth of the entrance. It took some maneuvering and guts to get by them but Anita wielded her Subaru like a well oiled machine that it was and we got past them with no problem. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Heath and Anita and wish them the best of luck and the best of love in their marriage.

What Happens in Vegas……

On May, 05, 2010 | 0 Comments
Destination weddings are great. When your destination is Vegas…well, ladies and gentleman that is turbo great. The glitz and glamor of this little big town in the middle of the desert has long attracted couples ready to take the big leap in a big way. Jaime and CJ met in Las Vegas, both celebrating their 21st birthdays, exactly 7 years from their wedding date. Meeting with Jaime and CJ, I was definitely excited to take on this photo adventure. I arrived the day before and walking out the door of the airport, Las Vegas hit me abruptly. Considering it was fifty degrees in Portland and ninety in las Vegas, that was to be expected. After picking up the rental car, which another person unwittingly stole but returned, I went to work. Scouting locations (after stopping at In N’ Out Burger) and taking in the sun. The couple and I had an impromptu meeting at a slot machine and the excitement ratcheted up. The day of was perfect. It cooled down a little with clear skies. We were picked up by the bus the couple rented and we were off. This wedding day was so Vegas and continued on long into the night.

Dustin and Jennie – Engagement Session

On May, 05, 2010 | 0 Comments
Here in the Northwest, one comes to expect rainy weather. Moving here almost 15 years ago it was hard to get used to the Spring weather here. I’ve done one Engagement Session where it was sunny, hailed, rained, snowed, sunny, hail. Dustin and Jennie’s session wasn’t that extreme but it was definitely a soggy one. We started out at the West End Theater to wait out the rain then crossed our fingers and headed out into the fray. We decided to do the session at Forest Park. On our way over, we couldn’t help but notice the ominous clouds overhead taunting us with their rain filled puffs of darkness. Miraculously, the skies opened up and we started off with blue skies and radiant sunshine. We had a good time walking along a running path, stopping to take advantage of the surroundings. At one point, Dustin decided that it would be a good idea to pick up Jennie in his arms and stand on a log in the middle of a stream. My motto, “If you are willing to do it, I’m willing to shoot it”. Walking back towards the parking lot, the glutinous clouds above could no longer hold it’s wet cargo and it starting raining like crazy. Not willing to admit defeat we took refuge under a bridge and I decided to shoot a couple more shots. Although wet, it was an awesome session.

Meghan and Sean's Engagement Session

On May, 05, 2010 | 0 Comments

I had such a blast photographing this couple. Luckily, the Saturday we picked turned out to be beautiful and starting on NW 23rd worked out great. Even though the road was destroyed, we took advantage of that and all the other spots in our general vicinity. It felt like a group of friends hanging out rather than a photographic shoot. We even, kind of sort of got into trouble, maybe…but there weren’t any witnesses, well except my camera! Meghan and Sean were up for anything and I took full advantage of that. After a couple of hours of shooting, we wrapped it up on the Eastbank Esplanade with a few sunset shots. I really can’t wait for their wedding, if the Engagement Session is any indication of how the wedding would be, I’m in for a hilarious time!

Natalie and Nick – Engagement Session

On April, 20, 2010 | 0 Comments

Met up with Natalie and Nick for their engagement session at Bethany Vineyards in Ridgefield, WA. Turns out the weather worked perfectly for the early evening shoot. The vineyard pretty much had everything one could hope for in an engagement shoot out in the country: a pond and pier, bridge, tall grass, rows of vines… and a fork lift.

Natalie and Nick have such great chemistry together, I’m really looking forward to their wedding later this year!

This afternoon I worked with Terah and Casey. We visited a number of great locations in Lewis and Clark State Park near the Sandy and Columbia rivers. It was such a great day to be outside and out of the city!
Terah and Casey are getting married at a families ranch in Nevada later this year

On April, 11, 2010 | 0 Comments

Meghan and Curran are getting married in Italy in 2011 and chose Powers to document their celebration. Today I was lucky to get some time with these two while covering their engagement session here in Downtown Portland.
We had a great time walking the streets of Downtown. The light was great and the weather nearly perfect.

On March, 28, 2010 | 0 Comments
Tonight I documented an intimate wedding along the Willamette River at a private residence. The ceremony was just before sunset… very beautiful! With the temperature near 67 degrees this was the perfect late March day to celebrate.

My clients were so welcoming and enjoyable to work with! What a memorable day!!
